Walking the streets of Brisbane, Australia at sunrise with a camera in hand turned into something much more than just a photography session. In this video, I head out early through downtown Brisbane capturing street photography, city life, architecture, and quiet morning moments before the city fully wakes up. From Queen Street to early morning coffee at the Westin, this was a chance to slow down, explore a new city, and experience Australia through photography. Brisbane surprised me with its energy, beauty, and how familiar it felt even halfway around the world. This is also the beginning of the next leg of my Australian adventure as I prepare to head north toward Darwin with no strict schedule and no real plan — just photography, travel, and seeing where the journey leads. If you enjoy travel photography, retirement travel, Leica photography, street photography, or exploring new cities, come along for the walk. Ireland's Storm: Cliffs of Moher Fury

Image
Experience the wild beauty of Ireland as we explore the Cliffs of Moher in extreme winds, visit the historic Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, and finish with an unforgettable night in a packed Galway pub during a live soccer match! This travel photography vlog starts in the charming village of Adare—home of the upcoming Ryder Cup—before racing against the weather to reach the Cliffs of Moher before high winds shut everything down. Battling intense gusts, fog, and mist, I capture what I can in some of the toughest conditions I’ve ever shot in. From there, we head inland to Bunratty Castle where the weather completely flips, giving us a chance to explore and photograph one of Ireland’s most iconic historic sites. The journey continues through Galway, where we experience the electric atmosphere of a pub packed with fans watching a Premier League match. I also share my thoughts on using the OM System OM-1 Mark II and 12-40mm f/2.8 lens in harsh conditions, plus my honest review of the G...

My Ireland Camera Kit + Do You Really Need a Tack Sharp Lens?

Image
If you're planning a photography trip to Ireland, you don’t need a massive camera bag or the sharpest lens on the market… and in this video, I’ll explain why. In today’s Garage Talk, I walk through my final Ireland camera kit, including what made the cut (and what didn’t), plus why I decided to keep things simple and lightweight for travel. From my backpack choice to my camera setup and even adding a GoPro, this is the exact gear I’ll be using while exploring Ireland. But more importantly, we dive into a bigger question: 👉 Do you really need a tack sharp lens to take great photos? With so much focus on lens sharpness, pixel peeping, and expensive gear, it’s easy to lose sight of what actually matters—composition, technique, and storytelling. I share my honest thoughts, real-world experience, and why I think photographers may be overthinking (and overspending) on gear. Whether you're a beginner or experienced photographer, this discussion might change how you think about yo...

Sunrise Photography at Oak Openings Metro Park | Testing My One Camera Setup for Ireland

Image
Today I’m out at Evergreen Lake and Mallard Lake near Oak Openings Metropark in northwest Ohio testing a simple travel photography setup before my upcoming trip to Ireland. The goal for this trip is simple: bring ONE camera and see if it can handle everything — photography, video, and audio. For this field test I’m using the OM-1 Mark II paired with the 12-40mm f/2.8 and a Rode microphone. I wanted to see how practical it is to switch between photo and video while walking, shooting handheld, and capturing the environment just like I will be doing in Ireland. This location is also special for me. Growing up in this area we spent a lot of time around these lakes, so it brought back a lot of memories while I was out testing the gear. In this video I capture a few images, test stabilization, audio quality, and see if this setup is realistic for travel photography. I’d love your feedback: • Is the audio quality good enough? • Is the handheld stabilization acceptable? • Should I bring a...

I survived a Day of Photography with Ron Durant, But my Files Didn't

Image
I survived an amazing day of photography with Ron Durant… but unfortunately my files didn’t. In this video I share the story of a photography trip to the Cumberland Plateau region near Crossville, Tennessee where we captured sunrise, waterfalls, and incredible landscapes. It was a fantastic day filled with hiking, exploring, and photographing beautiful locations. But when I got home and started editing my photos and video, something went terribly wrong. My laptop crashed, files disappeared, and everything from the trip was lost. In this video I talk about: • The photography adventure with Ron Durant • What happened to my images and video files • My photo and video backup workflow • The laptop crash that caused the problem • Lessons learned about backing up photography files • Changes I'm making to protect my work in the future If you're a photographer, this is a reminder about the importance of backup systems and protecting your images. Have you ever lost photos or video f...

From Buc ee’s to Cades Cove. A Smoky Mountains Photography Adventure

Image
Today’s adventure starts with a stop at Buc-ee’s Richmond before heading south to the incredible scenery of Cades Cove in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In this travel and photography vlog I spend the afternoon exploring Cades Cove looking for wildlife, landscapes, and unique images. Along the way we photograph waterfalls, deer, turkeys, historic churches, and some classic Smoky Mountain scenery. Even though the wildlife was limited on this trip, it was still a beautiful day in the Smokies and a great opportunity to test handheld photography using the OM System OM‑1 Mark II with the OM System M.Zuiko 12‑40mm f/2.8 PRO and OM System M.Zuiko 50‑200mm setup. If you enjoy travel photography, landscape photography, and exploring places like Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains, this video is for you.
